Most people on this list are probably familiar with what I mean by the space between stories. It is the time when the old story of who I am, what is real, and how to navigate life has broken down. It is the time when my familiar ways of making meaning are no longer relevant. I don't know who I am. What had seemed so permanent, reliable, understandable and real is revealed as an illusion. It is a state of "I don't know." Our society is entering it, and so are many of us as individuals.
The course works with this idea both on a personal level and systems level. It isn't just lecture - we will use a webinar platform and inter-session forums to allow all kinds of participation. If my vision for this course comes true, it will be not "about" the space between stories - it will be a powerful support, catalyst, or accelerator of the process of transition into and through that space. I intend it for anyone who resonates with any one (or all three!) or the following:
- You are in some way stuck in an old story (work, relationship, bodily condition, etc.) but you can feel it is unsustainable, that a change is on the horizon, that it is starting to break down. Or...
- You are in the space between stories. The old world isn't coming back, but the new one hasn't arrived yet either. Or...
- You are living in a new story, and it feels maybe a little tender or fragile, and you want support and a frame of reference to help navigate its challenges.
There will be six sessions, once every Saturday from March 28 to May 2. Recordings will be available as well. All but the first and last will have a special guest: Lissa Rankin, Bayo Akomolafe, Jodie Evans, and Cynthia Jurs - all of whom have amazing stories to share.
Tuition for this course is "You choose the price." Comparable courses are around $200-$300. You can set your own amount. In order to ensure registrants are sincerely committed, we have a $75 minimum, but we have scholarships available. Also, at the end of the course you can adjust your tuition up or down by any amount, even to zero, to better reflect the value you received.
I've been on courses organized by someone else before, but this is the first time I've taken on designing one from scratch. I'm going to pour all my creativity into it to make it a powerful experience, a watershed in the evolution of the story you live in, and that lives in you. This will come not only from me, but from the participants - I'm building in a lot of space for what might emerge in the forums and sessions. There will be a planned trajectory for the course, but anything could happen. In a sense, the course itself is a step into the "I don't know" that marks the Space Between Stories.
I want to thank my fabulous team that virtually self-assembled to take on this project, and have been working hard for a month to set up the website and logistics. They are Raven Robinson (Tech Wizard), Laurie Young (Entropy Tamer), and Marie Goodwin (Chief Plate Spinner). Without them, this project would be far beyond me.
